Section A: The Guts

Welcome and welcome back. It's another amazing day in paradise. Thank you so much for being here. Today I'm going to talk about "the guts", both literally and figuratively.

. But we experience is real life too. Early Wednesday morning his allergies were bothering him so much that he vomited. By early I mean 2:30 in the morning.

He woke up mumbling about needing to blow his nose. I knew he was trying to stop a coughing attack but while blowing, it started. He gagged and reached for the door handle.

It was the second time he'd done that in less than 8 hours. It's the 3rd year in a row we've experienced it (2023, 2024, 2025) because the pollen count is much higher in the car since we have to keep our windows cracked for air and to save gas. This is how we homeless.

And figuratively it takes guts to panhandle, to set up our microwave in the park to cook our food, to have the audacity to run for office and proclaim I'm "Raleigh's most famous unhoused person" and to trust someone else to share our story. But that's what we do and that's not all.

This is not the life I imagined but at some point it's the life I chose because the alternatives are worse. And so now my work, my passion is to change things. A home, upward mobility, connection, community, peace... we all deserve those things whatever that looks like for each of us.
