My Wonderful World With Wisdom: The Good - The Bad - The Ugly

The Chronicles of The Emancipated Momma

My Wonderful World With Wisdom
The Good ~ The Bad ~ The Ugly

Chapter 1: The Guts and the Glory

Section A: The Guts Continued

Welcome and welcome back 👋🏾! It's another amazing day in paradise 🤩. Thank you so much for being here. Especially because it's been awhile! Can we just take a deep breath together? I didn't intend to be gone for so long. In fact I expected MORE engagement in the last month or so. All is… not well (to be honest). Insert breathe here! But it IS getting better. Let me jump right in!

If you came here looking to see how you can help, please go here. If you’d like more information, please keep reading. This is a BIG update.

THE GOOD

What’s good? God. Wisdom. Music. Life.

GOD ~ God is always so good to me and Wisdom, more than good really. That doesn’t mean we’re exempt from life’s challenges. In fact we’ve dealt with some real… STUFF lately. It’s been hard.

God being more than good to us means He will and is making a way for us to get through the… STUFF! We’re getting to the other side of situations that were less than ideal and looking back shows the beauty of our experience despite how yucky they have been.

WISDOM ~ Wisdom is more than good too. He’s amazing. I deeply LOVE and highly honor being the mom of this young Black male superhero. We’re 4 episodes into our podcast that I haven’t really talked about because of the circumstances we’ve been living under. The podcast is called My Wonderful World With Wisdom, “sharing the wisdom of a child with a child named Wisdom”.

I consider Wisdom a prophet, a messenger. I knew when I was pregnant that he was coming to change the world. When God gave me his name, He said, "His name will be Wisdom, not for the things he will learn but for the things he will teach". That's why I call myself his mom and student. I am both his first and best teacher AND his first and best student. He teaches me every. Single. Day. I hope you walk away informed and enlightened once you check out the podcast.

Right now the episodes are all in video form because I’m not sure how to convert them to audio and put them on a podcasting platform yet. All is well though. I hope to learn that in the near future. You can find the first 4 episodes on my Momma Kai Speaks - The Emancipated Momma YouTube channel.

We recorded and released the 4th episode on Wednesday, July 16th. Our conversation was on how he feels about the parenting principles I’m raising him with. One next episode will be released on Wednesday, July 23rd at 7:30p. Our conversation will be on consent, connect to respect/respect to connect.

Because we need to generate some funds we’re opening ourselves up to welcome guests to create live and virtual audiences. The first event will be a Watch Party on July 30th at 7:30p where we will watch episode number 6 and do a Q & A.

Then we’re also offering the opportunity to be a part of our audience when we record 3 episodes where we're discussing some experiences with different people in the community that we aren't comfortable with. We think they should be addressed publicly and so we're going to talk about them with an audience. You can sign up here

Our live audience topics are:

  • Our Experience with the Police
  • Watch Party Our Experience with the Police
  • Our Experience with Stephen Prescott and his staff at Notasium in Cary
  • Watch Party Our Experience with Stephen Prescott and his staff at Notasium in Cary
  • Our Experience with Maggie Kane, A Place At the Table staff and volunteers
  • Watch Party Our Experience with Maggie Kane, A Place At the Table staff and volunteers

We’re covering some sensitive topics and realize we are also opening ourselves up to criticism. But the need for both Wisdom and I to speak is greater than the fear of ridicule so we’re inviting people to join us.

MUSIC ~ Music is healing. Me and Wisdom’s favorite group is Black Violin, which I feel is so cool. Their songs reflect the soundtrack of our life together. And their new album is *mwah*mwah*. Recently I was asked what my summer theme song is and it definitely is Legends in the Making.

Most nights we sleep to their music. We alternate between Black Violin and Asleep on the Calm Health app. I created a playlist of all their songs. But Wisdom has requested we sleep to his playlist of about 30 of their songs. For the longest time Wisdom’s favorite song was Go. But it’s Time To Shine now.

Some of my favorites are… well… I had to stop because the list started to get long! So here are the ones among my top 10: Beautiful Day with Lalah Hathaway, Another Chance, Dreamer, Live My Life, New Life, Impossible Is Possible and A Way Home. That list is far from complete though!

There are two songs that I deeply appreciate because I feel they are speaking directly to and/or about Wisdom. Those are Invisible and King. The intro to and chorus of Invisible is “I’m not invisible. I’m not invisible. I’m not invisible. It’s not my fault you don’t understand. You can pretend not to care. That won’t make me disappear. As I rise it’s clear. Here I stand. Here I am.”

King definitely has lyrics that describe him. The ones that get me emotional say, “Just remember one thing, you know you’re a king!” And then, “Even if they don’t recognize all of the light you have inside, it’s alright, because you know we can see the beauty of your life.”

Doesn't he look great in a crown (even a small one)?

If there’s one thing that frustrates me more than anything it is seeing the beauty of my little king’s life on a daily basis while other people are either ignoring him or dismissing him. That’s one of the main reasons we’ve established a platform where he can speak freely.

I’m just grateful for clean music, relatable music, music I feel comfortable letting my young Black male superhero listen to and know his mind and spirits are being lifted up high.

Thank you Black Violin! We plan to see you in November at DPAC because Raleigh hasn’t hosted you yet for some reason. My goal is to be able to purchase the VIP package. These pics are from the first time we saw you live on October 24, 2018!

After the show

Nate gave Wisdom those drumsticks. Sadly we no longer have them.

It was a surprise seeing my cousin, Shavonne, and her son, Preston, at the concert.
We met Will B. and Preston was given drumsticks from Nate too!

LIFE ~ Life is… WOW! LIfe is quite incredible despite the heartaches I’ve been experiencing lately. I am so blessed… I can’t even begin to share how much I appreciate God’s timing. We have been on this incredible journey of being unhoused for a long time. Despite that… I have about 9 more projects that are on the horizon (besides the podcast I mean).

God is positioning me… us to do ALL that. Wisdom is a key part of everything I am doing. God used my status of being an unhoused mom to move me into my zone of excellence and reveal my zone of genius (Thank you Sarah Fui and her Renaissance Achiever podcast where she references “The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks, I'm episode #13).

I'm also 6 weeks deep into my pilot group parent coaching experience called Emancipated Parenting. Our gatherings will last for a total of 12 weeks. It's been awesome! I've come to realize that my purpose is to combine science and spirituality to help parents develop better relationships with themselves in order to have better relationships with their children.

I can't believe how far I've come as a parent. And yet, I'm not suggesting I've arrived anywhere, I'm simply better than I've ever been and look forward to learning and implementing more to deepen the connection between Wisdom and I because I'm deepening the connection with myself.

The podcast and parent coaching are just 2 of the projects that I have my hands in. There are more than 10. Of course I can't do it all. If you're interested in getting involved in making our city better for children and families first, then please click on the link to buy tickets, provide support and/or get involved.

As if that wasn’t enough, this month I was featured in the online magazine voyageraleigh.com. I’m so honored. I’m so blessed. I’m so good. Life is good. AND beautiful. AND phenomenal. AND…. hard!

THE BAD

I need to go to Connecticut to take care of my father's estate. It's been in probate for over a year. The attorney who was appointed as the executor of the estate didn't appear at the hearing on Monday, July 14th to give an update. She has essentially disappeared and gone no contact.

You can't leave a message in her voicemail. Her voicemail message gives the phone numbers of her two assistants but when you call those numbers one is not monitored any longer or the other person doesn't work for her anymore.

That's concerning enough. There's a lot more that I won't go into. I just know I need to take a solid step to move forward because my father worked 50 years for the 2 homes he owned. There are 7 rental units between them. At this point they are at risk of being lost either to foreclosure or sale. And I'm not going to let that happen.

So I'm going to admit it seems bad now, but I'm not going to let it stay like that.

THE UGLY

Wisdom and I need to get into a stable living situation. This one place we were at was not safe for me or Wisdom. Our nervous systems were living in fight or flight all the time. That's why it took me so long to get back online. Lots of lessons, not much movement!

Now we're with a friend who graciously took us in but it's only for a few days. We need to make some moves to generate some funds and get stable in order to we live up to all God is expecting.

We can't go back to the car. It is too hot to stay in. For one, our air conditioner doesn't work. I'm sure it needs to be serviced and have freon added but we don't have the funds to do that.

There are also more parking lots being monitored by security that ask people to leave if they find them sleeping inside. And I don't feel safe sleeping on the street.

So I'm inviting your support:

~ Purchase tickets to one of our My Wonderful World With Wisdom events: the watch party or live recordings.

~ Let's schedule a collaboration call if you're interested in Emancipated Parenting, parent coaching or any of the other initiatives I'm working on.

~ Gift or use some rewards points from your hotel stays or credit cards to book a hotel room for 3 or more nights.

~ Share our story.

~ Send a cash donation.

Check them all out here.

No matter what more you do for us, because you've already been here... thank you! All is well... And still we rise... Because the best is yet to come! I hope this inspires you to acknowledge the good, the bad and the ugly while multiplying and focusing on the good. Good always outweighs the other two if you let it. Amen?

PLUS sharing the yucky stuff helps. It really does. Magnified success Ya'll. Enjoy the amazing day you're creating. Peace...
