To be completely honest with you, I was so shocked and completely honored to see the title "Outstanding Engagement" because I didn't know what the certificate would say. I don't do things for recognition. I do things to bring change and provide support where I see it's needed. Service is my Love language. It is one of the ways I am able to keep my nervous system regulated. And it really does take guts to show up in service to others when you need so much. I need to say, panhandling is NOT a sign of laziness. It could be a sign of deep desperation, incredible courage and/or unwavering faith. Personally, I hate doing it. So for me, it's a sign of my determination to lead the changes our world needs. Because our needs being met and/or exceeded is a measurement of how compassionate our community is.
